Welcome to Alliance Minnesota, whether you are brand new to larping, or are a returning player of some form it's good to know a few key things about our larp. The current new player representatives for the chapter are Tanner and Cole. it is their job to make sure you feel heard and are comfortable coming into and experiencing your first few games.
The first thing you should consider as a new player is what kind of player character you want to be, you can be anything from an elven scholar who calls upon elemental magics to do their bidding to a heavily armored Dwarven fighter ready to fight on the front lines of any combat.
The new player reps can help you with a concept if you are feeling conflicted or lost but at the end of the day it's all about what you want to play and what you think will be fun. Another way you can engage in our chapter is by playing a non player character or NPC. NPCs are crucial to any larp and play a plethora of roles throughout the weekend, whether that be a dire wolf stalking across the battlefield and attacking players or a knight of the country trying to sway the players into helping with local issues.
Whether you choose to NPC or PC Allianceβs tagline is βbe all you canβt beβ we as a chapter strive to make that a reality, and both Brenda and Cole will be willing to help you all the way through. We have a pretty active Discord community that is always willing to help new players and you are highly encouraged to join it. Another Important thing to know as a new player is all Alliance chapters are a lightest touch system of combat, meaning when swinging a weapon you hit just hard enough so the person knows they have been hit but no harder, if you feel someone is swinging too hard let them or a staff member know and they will lighten their swings.
Coming into your first game you will want to make sure you are prepared as a player and as a character. For NPCs it's required to bring black pants and a shirt as NPC camp usually has everything else you need, while for PCing you will need to bring all garb and props for your character. You will also want to bring bedding for a mattress, a pillow, extra socks, and any medication you will need for the weekend. When you pre register for an event make sure to put any medical requirements or needs in the appropriate section as well as dietary restrictions.
With Alliance's tagline of βbe all you canβt beβ we try hard to accommodate any physical restrictions you might have so that you can play a character you find interesting, you can either directly tell staff of these restrictions or the new player reps can bring it up and we will let you know how we can accommodate you.
We are a welcoming community at Alliance Minnesota and at the end of the day we are all here to have fun and tell stories, Welcome to our chapter and we hope to see you soon.
